Math Hoops

The Sacramento Bee's NIE program and the Sacramento Kings proudly bring NBA Math Hoops to local schools. Math Hoops is a fast-paced basketball board game that allows students to enhance their math skills in a fun and interactive format using the game of basketball and NBA players.

For the 2016-2017 program, over 62 teachers and 900 students participated from schools and after school programs throughout the Sacramento region.

The Math Hoops Tournament took place on Thursday, March 23 at the Golden 1 Center. 32 teams/64 students played until the final four were announced. The final four teams were from Butler Elementary (Elk Grove), Joseph Sims Elementary (Elk Grove), and Woodlake Elementary (Sacramento).

It was an exciting evening, which culminated as the students from Joseph Sims Elementary were crowned champions! Congratulations the students and their teacher, Erica Yee.

Thank you again to all of the teachers and students that participated in this educational program and event!

And a big thanks to the Sacramento Kings, Learn Fresh and Math Hoops for making this program possible!
